Liz and Tom Littleton
Liz, a Registered Nurse, has been a nurse for over 22 years, has a Masters and is a Clinical Nurse Specialists, working in various aspects of nursing from Pediatric ICU to Hospice Nursing. During that time, her true love became Hospice Nursing and end of life care. During her time as a Hospice nurse, she went into people’s homes and had several patients in group homes. As a teenager, she used to make house calls at nursing homes with her father, a physician, and wondered why people who needed assistance couldn’t live in a small home-like environment and thus receive more love and attention. The whole idea was reborn when Liz realized that these homes existed and were providing people with an alternative to large facilities.
With a Master in Business Administration, Tom always had a desire to operate and own his own business. He recognized an incredible need in our community to help offer options to the aging and frequently ill. Tom has a passion to provide better care to residents for less money and stress to families. He operates the business, facilities and marketing aspects of Lighthouse and enjoys spending time with our clients and caring for their needs.
As a family, Tom and Liz love the fact that they are able to work together in business that has greatly enriched their lives. They also have four children who love spending time with the residents.
Our Staff
Each Lighthouse facility is staffed by a house manager who is full time and tends to our residents’ need. We believe firmly that continuing education is vital to growth and success of our staff, so all staff have mandatory training classes and inservice. Most house managers are Certified Nursing Assistants with many years of caregiving experience. Over the years, we have had several staff members who have moved on to nursing careers.
The homes are staffed with part time help on the weekends. We are proud to say that our staff turn-over is minimal compared to most homes. We attribute this to the fact that we strive to keep staff, with both supportive and financial incentives, once we find good caregivers.
Philosophy
In a small home-like environment, we believe that seniors receive more one-on-one care and attention while avoiding an institutional setting in a more cost effective manner. This allows people to improve their quality of life and often times thrive as they progress in the aging process. We also believe that people are most comfortable staying in their home as their body continues to decline, so we strive to allow our residents to pass away peacefully without a fear of leaving home.
